MARCEL SITCOSKE GALLERY OPENS SEPTEMER 12
WITH “FOOD” – A FEAST FOR THE EYES

SAN FRANCISCO, September 4, 1998 – Marcel Sitcoske Gallery officially opens its doors in downtown San Francisco with “Food,” a stylishly eclectic and ambitious exhibition with a theme dear to the hearts of many San Franciscans. The Gallery is the realization of a long-held dream for Marcel Sitcoske, who recently relocated from New York.

This premier exhibition highlights work from contemporary masters such as Andy Warhol and Wayne Thiebaud as well as recognized New York artists including Vik Muniz and Kate Shepard. In media ranging from painting and photography to sculpture and printmaking. Food takes viewers an inspired full-course menu. The exhibition presents abstract as well as figurative culinary images, ranging from James Hyde’s whimsical minimalist sculpture created out of out of Ghirardelli chocolate to Donna Moylan’s provocative untitled painting illustrating milk flowing from many breasts.

“I chose the particular works because they present art as sustenance – as essential as food, water, and shelter,” said Sitcoske. “Each piece was chosen or made for the show as representative of the artist while containing some reference to food.”

Beyond food, the exhibition reflects Sitcoske’s particular philosophy of the role of art in the ideal gallery – that it should be exhibited in a manner that educates and entertains, challenges and amuses, and above all is easily accessible to the public.

Food will be on the menu at Marcel Sitcoske Gallery until October 24. Photos of the various works are available upon request. The gallery, located at 251 Post Street near Union Square, opens with a reception held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on September 12. Hors d’oeuvres will be prepared by Gary Danko, exclusive chef of Viognier, San Mateo, and winner of the prestigious James Beard Award. Wines will be graciously provided by the Hess Collection and Hess New World Wines.
